GOD'S WORD
We are blessed to have God's completed Word which holds the key to all of our questions and needs. Jeremiah speaks of God's Word as bringing joy to his heart. Jeremiah 15:16 "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts." Let us look at several verses that describe God's Word, and like Jeremiah, may we too have a joy and rejoicing in our hearts.
God's Word is:
A Lamp and Light ~ Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
A Sword ~ Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
A Discerner of the Heart ~ Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Sweet ~ Psalm 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Enduring ~ 1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
Gives deliverance ~ Psalm 119:170 Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word.
Gives Light and Understanding ~ Psalm 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Is Pure ~ Psalm 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Gives Life ~ Psalm 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.
Brings Hope ~ Psalm 119:114 Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
Gives Strength ~ Psalm 119:28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.
Settled In Heaven ~ Psalm 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
Revives or Quickens ~ Psalm 119:25 My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.
Orders our Steps ~ Psalm 119:133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
Brings Joy ~ Psalm 119:162 I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.
Gives Understanding ~ Psalm 119:169 Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word.
Allows Us To Trust ~ Psalm 119:42 So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word.
Cleanses ~ Psalm 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Keeps Us From Sin ~ Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Right ~ Psalm 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.
True ~ John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Saves Souls ~ James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
Convicts of Sin ~ Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Eternal ~ Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Inspired ~ 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
A Fire ~ Jeremiah 23:29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD;
A Hammer ~ Jeremiah 23:29 Is not my word like ... a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
Perfect ~ Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD [is] perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD [is] sure, making wise the simple.
Infallible Authority ~ 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
